biofreak659I finally got around to coating my big boy with MSC (I hate it! Also I work nights so I'm nocturnal and I don't like to be spraying noxious chemicals outside at 1am. Scares the neighbors, and me, because I'm nervous all the time, but I imagine me with a doll and my huge respirator is far scarier than anything else), and got around to starting his body blushing and face up.
Now, I purchased this head off DOA (it's a uh, Izestage Taeyeong, I think), and he already had a really nice face up, but it was too... detailed. He looked quite vampiric, actually, which is neat but not the face up I had in mind.
BUT!
His eyebrows
Eyebrows are something I struggle with for some reason, also they're lovely, so I removed the face up except for the eye and lip area. This took a long time and a lot of qtips and rubbing alcohol. I was also sweating, like, the entire time I was working.
The difference between the original resin and the blushed parts is crazy.
The head is about a centimeter too large to fit on the neck hole, so I did make myself a little doughnut to keep it in place.
I wanted the back to look a little like that fake lightning strike bruising photo that was floating around a few years ago. This is my progress so far.
I've used pastels and gouache. The veins definitely need more work, but this is just one of five billion layers. I've got to get a decent airbrush, too, to add skin texture.

Date: 2021-04-23 01:54 am (UTC)MSC is Mr. Super Clear. Its a hobby sealant, actually meant for sealing gundams after paint jobs, but it texturizes plastics (like resin :)). You spray it on the doll before blushing/painting, so your pastels will actually stick. It also protects the resin so it doesn't get stained by the paint, and it block UV light, which causes resin to become yellowish.

Date: 2021-06-26 08:16 pm (UTC)I'd love to be able to do face-ups but the dangers of MSC always makes me scared :/ Sure, there are respiratory masks and similar equipment, but even then I'm too worried to try. Maybe one day I'll be brave enough...
