Art Slump

Bleh! I've been in such an art slump lately! I have all these ideas, but no ability to actually make them; its getting quite frustrating. I have been sewing lately though. I finally finished an SCA project that I've been working on for more than a year, so thankfully that's off my back. I'm also almost finished with a 1898 cloak, which I plan to wear for a WWI thing I'd like to attend in November.

I've had some disappointing thoughts about SCA lately, mostly related to the, uh, lack of historical research that newbies, and oldies who never bothered learning, do. I sang some period songs for a bardic, which, strike one against me, I guess, which were then followed by the Moose Song and some TikTok Bardcore stuff. I am aware that I'm being an obnoxious hardass about it, but I'm realizing how necessary asshole stitchcounters are to the environment at large. They're the apex predators, so to speak. if they don't maintain a hard line about it, I think even us normals suffer.

But alas! It's odd to me that more recent re-enactments (18th and beyond), hold themselves to a much higher standard, but then, SCA is built on a lot of historic misconceptions (and a ton of partying). I am hoping that WWI is a bit more stringent, but looking over some of the uniform and equipment requirements, I'm very impressed. As for my 1898 cloak: Germany was about a decade behind everyone else in terms of fashion (I was dead convinced that this picture of MvR (The Red Baron):

Was from 1910 at the latest, judging by the woman on the right's bloused shirt, but Manny's got his head injury, which means its from around 1917. And anyway, my stupid cloak is dated at latest to 1910, as a hunting cloak, so I think it'll be alright. If not, I'll save it for whenever I finish my other late Victorian stuff.
